Majors & Minors
Early Childhood Education (EC-Grade 6)
Early childhood educators set the stage for lifelong learning. You will learn developmentally-appropriate pedagogy for young children in pre-k through sixth grade and will have the option to earn three certifications upon graduation: Generalist, English as a Second Language and Special Education. Or earn your Bilingual Education teaching certification for Spanish, giving you an advantage in the classroom.
Middle School Education (Grades 4-8)
Middle school educators shape young minds in critical years. You will explore ways to successfully teach and engage all learners, especially in grades 4-8. Middle school education majors choose from one of the following content areas: Language & Literacy, Mathematics, Science or Social Studies.
Secondary Education (Grades 7-12)
Secondary educators shape the next generation of leaders. You will learn ways to successfully teach and engage all learners, specifically in grades 7-12, and gain in-depth knowledge of your selected content area: Language & Literacy, Life Science, Physical Science or Social Studies.
Educational Studies Double Major
The Educational Studies double major program is designed to complement a major in a selected academic area, including Chemistry, Communication (Speech), Dance, English, History, Journalism, Mathematics, Spanish or Theatre Arts. Completion of the Educational Studies double major meets the requirements for teacher certification. A minor in Educational Studies is available, but does not meet the requirements for teaching certification.
Youth Advocacy & Educational Studies
This program is designed for those interested in the broader field of education, but not looking to earn teacher certification. In this program you will be prepared to begin your career in educational policy and youth advocacy and complete internships in school program administration, government-supported initiatives, faith-based organizations, non-profit agencies and other organizations that promote the well-being of children and young adults.
Interdisciplinary Inquiry
If your academic interests extend beyond traditional academic disciplines, the Interdisciplinary Inquiry (IINQ) major (B.A. or B.S.) can help you achieve your academic and professional goals. This program is designed to give the highly-motivated student, whose academic interests connect separate traditional disciplines, the opportunity to create an integrated, rigorous course of study based on a focus or inquiry area.
Accelerated Master’s Option
Available only to TCU undergraduates, the Accelerated Master’s Option allows outstanding students to combine a Bachelor’s degree with the Master of Education (M.Ed.) in only five years.
All-Level Teacher Certification (EC-Grade 12)
All-level certification is available for those who wish to teach all grade levels in the areas of Art, Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Music, Physical Education, Spanish or Theatre. Students will follow the secondary education program of study and will complete the 12-week clinical teaching program.
