Texas Christian University’s College of Education Master of Education in School Counseling program will be offered in a fully online format starting fall 2025. To expand access to counselor education programs, TCU is proud to announce the Pathways to Purpose Program, providing guaranteed scholarships up to $69,000 for newly admitted school counseling students beginning with the fall 2025 cohort.

This program effectively lowers the total cost of the M.Ed. in School Counseling program to approximately $30,000, or $5,000 per semester—making it a more affordable and competitive option for aspiring school counselors.

The online format and scholarship program underscore TCU’s commitment to creating accessible pathways for individuals addressing the social and emotional needs of PK-12 students. These initiatives advance the university’s strategic plan, Lead On: Values in Action, which focuses on student-centered growth, accessibility and community engagement.

“Counselors are the backbone of student well-being and academic success,” said Frank Hernandez, dean of the TCU College of Education. “We’re proud to expand opportunities for aspiring counselors to answer this critical call. The online program and guaranteed scholarship reflect our dedication to preparing leaders who make a meaningful impact in their communities.”

Key Program Highlights

  • Fully Online Format: Offers flexibility for working professionals balancing school, work and family.

  • Guaranteed Scholarship Funding: Pathways to Purpose provides up to $69,000 in tuition assistance, requiring students maintain 6 or more credit hours per semester and a 3.5 GPA for eligibility.

  • Competitive Cost: This program lowers the total cost to approximately $30,000, making graduate education more affordable.

Expanding Opportunities for Aspiring School Counselors
This program supports a wide range of individuals passionate about making a difference in their communities. Teachers and school administrators seeking to meet student needs beyond the classroom will find the program’s flexible format and targeted curriculum tailored to their goals.

Professionals outside of education who wish to transition into counseling—such as career-changers from fields like business or social services—will benefit from the accessible pathway to make a societal impact by helping students thrive. These individuals bring valuable perspectives and life experiences to the counseling profession, enriching the field as they pursue meaningful work.

Recent graduates with backgrounds in psychology, education or related fields will also find the program a seamless next step toward a purposeful career. With small class sizes and personalized mentorship, students gain the skills and confidence needed to excel as school counselors.

Youth advocates, community organizers and others who see counseling as an opportunity to serve and uplift others are encouraged to apply. Whether working directly with youth, supporting community programs or exploring a career shift, this program offers a flexible and affordable way to achieve those goals.

Pathways to Purpose Scholarship
Newly admitted students in the fall 2025 cohort will automatically qualify for the Pathways to Purpose scholarship. Current Master of Education in School Counseling students are also eligible and will receive additional information via email correspondence.

“Scholarship funding is a vital part of TCU’s mission to create equitable access to high-quality education,” Hernandez said. “This investment ensures that finances are not a barrier for those dedicated to advancing student success.”
