Words of Encouragement
Throughout the week, over 40 faculty, staff and alumni shared motivational quotes
for current students. Their words reflect the resilience, determination and success
that is possible for all students.
-
“Congratulations to all first-gen students! Your journey is a testament to resilience, determination and the power of breaking barriers. Pause to celebrate all your navigational capital! Keep striving for greatness and know that you are paving the way for future generations. You've got this!” —Ariela Martinez
-
“Supporting students today is security for both our futures. It is my firm belief that ‘Every seed I sow produces a harvest.’ Whether it is a seed of wisdom, encouragement, correction, perspective or availability, my goal is to help build a foundation on which a student can stand and be seen or heard, building their confidence to be the best version of themselves for the future.” —Brian Hill
-
“As a first-gen graduate and proud Upward Bound alumna, I know how life-changing it is to have a community that believes in you. TRIO helped me realize my potential, showing me that my dreams were possible. To all first-gen students, remember that your unique journey brings strength, resilience and vision. Congratulations on all you’ve achieved so far!” —Brianne Varela
-
“Supporting first-generation students is vital because they bring unique perspectives and experiences that enrich our communities. By providing the guidance and resources they need, we empower them to break barriers, achieve their dreams and inspire future generations. Congratulations to all first-generation students! Your journey is a testament to your strength and resilience.” —Courtney Hendrix

“If it wasn't for TRIO, I wouldn't have gone to college. Had I not gone to college, I would not be where I am today. If I were not where I am today, I would not be able to support and advocate for college students in the same way I was supported and advocated for. Thus, TRIO is the reason I am who I am.” —Michael Mack
-
“First-generation college students embody resilience and determination. My father was the first and only person in his family (until my sister and I) to go to college, and his journey has always reminded me of the transformative power of education. I stand in solidarity with first-generation students, celebrating your achievements and advocating for the resources and support you deserve.” —Yvonne Giovanis
These words serve as a reminder to students forging new paths that they too can succeed at TCU and beyond.
