Two faculty in Texas Christian University’s College of Education will lead a newly developed thematic interest group on education policy and leadership for the European Teacher Education Network (ETEN).
Providing expertise are Ashley Tull, professor of professional practice in higher education leadership, and Cynthia Savage, senior associate dean of undergraduate studies, academic innovation and accreditation.
“I look forward to working with ETEN colleagues from member institutions through this newly established thematic interest group,” said Tull. “We seek to learn from and with each other on matters pertaining to policy and leadership across the educational landscape. We also feel that our affiliation with ETEN closely aligns with TCU’s mission of educating individuals for a global community."
The Education Policy and Leadership Thematic Interest Group will serve as a learning community for educational leaders: those currently serving; those who aspire to or are preparing to serve, including graduate students; faculty and others who prepare educational leaders; and participants seeking to strengthen their policy and leadership skills in educational settings. Participants include individuals interested in educational policy and leadership across all levels of education — from primary and secondary through tertiary, undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate education — and across diverse school types, including academic, technical, vocational, classical, humanities, social sciences and professional institutions.
“I’m excited to establish this space within ETEN where educators from different countries can come together to explore how education policy is developed and implemented, examine policy challenges and opportunities within different national contexts and consider commonalities that connect us internationally,” said Savage. “Through these conversations, we can broaden our perspectives and strengthen collective understanding of education policy and leadership.”
Through cooperative agreements, student and faculty exchanges, research and publications ETEN promotes teaching as a profession globally. ETEN provides knowledge and recognition of teaching and educational work at all levels and seeks to influence the development and innovation of teacher training programs in member countries. It also seeks to promote understanding of the history, culture and values of member countries through preparation programs.
