The latest issue of Literacy Today, guest-edited by Endia J. Lindo, PhD, associate professor of special education, delves into the significance of employing evidence-based literacy practices to address persistently low literacy levels. Lindo’s “An Intersectional Lens on Literacy” introduces the Neurodiversity & Learning Differences edition which provides guidance on supporting the literacy development of culturally and linguistically diverse students with learning differences.

The issue shares insights about enhancing reading comprehension, supporting multilingual and home-school students, adopting asset-based lenses in education and more. Notable contributions from TCU College of Education faculty include Professor Michael Faggella-Luby's review of adolescent literacy interventions, along with articles by Steve Przymus, Ph.D., Melissa Mendoza, Ph.D., and Kathleen Kyzar, Ph.D., providing valuable insights into building supportive learning communities and effective literacy practices.

Professor Jan Lacina along with M.Ed. graduates Maddie Baldikoski ‘24 and Avery Penman ‘24 also share key lessons learned from the inaugural launch of the Breakfast & Critical Literacy Book Club at Starpoint School--one of TCU’s laboratory schools for children with learning differences.

Literacy Today is the membership magazine of the International Literacy Association, a nonprofit that strives to empower educators, inspire students, and encourage teachers with the resources they need to make literacy accessible for all.

TCU’s College of Education continues to prepare exemplary professionals for diverse educational and interdisciplinary work who are reflective, ethical, innovative and committed to serving the regional, national and global community.
