We are excited to welcome you to an extraordinary two-day workshop led by Dr. Justin Grimes and hosted by the TCU McNair Scholars Program. Join us at our charming 295-acre campus, nestled in a picturesque Fort Worth neighborhood adorned with lush trees.

Dr. Justin Grimes

Dr. Justin Grimes, born and raised in Little Rock, AR, owns and founded Apply to Graduate School and Stick With It, LLC. As a scholar, his research centers on mentorship, successful dissertation completion strategies, the impact of racism on college students, Black men's motivation to pursue doctoral degrees, and Black college men's identity development. He enjoys watching movies, bowling, working out, reading, cooking, and driving to see new places. Dr. Grimes is the author of 20 Questions to Answer Before You Apply to Graduate School, a book aiding individuals interested in pursuing a graduate degree with strategies to get into the graduate program of their dreams.

  • 9:15 a.m. Welcome from TCU McNair Program
  • 9:30 a.m. Workshop with Dr. Justin Grimes
  • 12 p.m. Networking Lunch (meal provided)
  • 1 p.m. Workshop with Dr. Justin Grimes
  • 4:30 p.m. End Day 1 Boot Camp
  • 5 p.m. Shuttle to Fort Worth Stockyards (optional)
  • 7 p.m./9 p.m. Shuttle to Court Yard Marriott & Hyatt Place-TCU from Stockyards (optional)

TUESDAY, JUNE 3RD  

  • 8:30 a.m. Walking Campus Tour (optional)
  • 9:30 a.m. Workshop with Dr. Justin Grimes
  • 12 p.m. Graduate Programs Fair & Networking Lunch (meal provided)
  • 1:30 p.m. Workshop with Dr. Justin Grimes

Participants are invited to enjoy an unforgettable evening in the historic district of Fort Worth known as Fort Worth Stockyards. Experience the charm and excitement of this iconic location, filled with rich history and vibrant entertainment.

Need a ride? A shuttle will be available for those who sign up in advance.

Explore, Shop, and Dine:

Guests will have the opportunity to visit a remarkable collection of shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues of their choice. Whether you're in the mood for unique shopping, delicious dining, or live entertainment, the Fort Worth Stockyards has something for everyone!

Some Attractions include:

Mechanical Bull Ride – open until 7 p.m. - $9

Rodeo Music Stage – 4:30pm – 7:30pm - The Rodeo Music Stage outside of Cowtown Coliseum offers visitors a free chance to get a feel for the Texas music scene. Up-and-coming local artists are booked each Friday & Saturday representing genres such as country, Texas country & southern rock. Performances are scheduled right before the Stockyards Championship Rodeo starts, so grab a drink and have a blast before you hit the Coliseum!

The Barnyard Petting Corral – open until 6 p.m. - $3 to feed the animals
