Student wins Dr. Pepper $100,000 Tuition Giveaway

First year Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies major Jazlyn Rodriguez won $100,000 in a Dr. Pepper tuition giveaway during the Big 12 Championship game on Dec. 7, throwing 17 footballs in a giant soda can in 30 seconds. Rodriguez is a participant in TCU’s TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program, housed in the College of Education.

“Jazlyn has a fierce determination to reach her goals of succeeding at TCU and at life,” SSS Director Cynthia Montes said. “She is kind and committed to helping all those she can along the way.”

Rodriguez submitted a video to be a finalist for the competition and practiced for 30 minutes daily since she found out she would compete for the prize.

“For me, coming from a low income family has brought it’s difficulties by exposing me to more than most,” Rodriguez said in the video. “I want to help minorities like myself understand the value of financial literacy and smart spending.”
