Thomas Wins Counseling Award
Congratulations to Dr. Frank Thomas, who received the Steve de Shazer Memorial Award at the Solution-Focused Brief Therapy Association (SFBTA) conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The association was founded in 2002 by de Shazer and 27 colleagues from North America, including Dr. Thomas. The award recognizes an individual who makes significant contributions to the field over many years. Dr. Thomas served as the association’s archivist from 2008 to 2016. During that time, he and his teaching assistants collected, preserved, reviewed, and catalogued over 1,500 videos, books, book chapters, articles, unpublished manuscripts, websites, photos, correspondence, and other items directly related to the field.
During the conference Dr. Thomas also made two presentations:
- Strangers in a strange land: Flourishing as solution-focused practitioners in non-solution-focused contexts. Presented with Heather Shahan, M.S.Ed. and Vanden Thong, M.Ed.
- Back to the future: Envisioning your solution-focused practice. Presented with Mark Mitchell, MA
Dr. Thomas is Professor of Counseling and Counselor Education and is recognized internationally for his contributions to the fields of solution-focused brief therapy, psychotherapy supervision, couple and family therapy and counselor education. He serves on five professional journal editorial boards and has presented over 230 workshops in 15 different countries.
