Marla McGhee Weighs in on Learning Lapses During COVID-19
The Texas Education Agency released a tool designed to help parents prevent learning gaps while children are educated at home in the wake of COVID-19. Professor of Educational Leadership and Center for Public Education Director Marla McGhee weighed in on the topic of COVID slide on WFAA News, advising parents, students and schools to take a more measured approach to the issue.
“Students backtracking during long calendar lulls has and always will be every educator’s worry,” she said in a remote interview. “Our current circumstances exacerbate that concern. Once we get back in schools the diagnostic work that we do as educators is helping understand where children are.”
McGhee spoke with WBAP radio in April, providing practical tips for parents helping their children learn at home.
